Generic and safe isn’t our style. We love creating spaces with personality, using colour, pattern, texture, and thoughtful details to bring a home to life. Balanced with timeless materials and classic elements, the result is a space that feels both fresh and enduring.
MEET JOANNE
My parents saw the signs early: I rearranged my bedroom furniture several times a year, obsessed over picking the perfect paint colour, begged for new wallpaper, and created hand-drawn floor plans long before I knew what drafting was.
If I had listened to them, I would have gone straight into interior design. But what teenager listens to their parents?!
Instead of pursuing design, I headed to business school and built a career in the cosmetics industry, working in public relations, marketing, and sales for some of the world’s biggest brands. But, after more than a decade in the corporate world, spreadsheets had taken over my days, and I was craving something more creative.
In 2013, I became a Certified Interior Decorator and an Accredited member of the profession. I spent the next five years working on the supplier side of the industry, helping homeowners and designers bring their ideas to life while gaining invaluable hands-on experience in custom millwork, closet design, soft furnishings, fabrics, and window treatments.
That experience gave me a deep understanding of both the creative and technical sides of design, which is knowledge that continues to benefit my clients today.
By 2018, it was time to build something of my own. That’s when I founded Joanne Dolan Design, a boutique interior design firm specializing in residential renovations, interior decorating and redesign. Today, the small but mighty team at JDD help clients create homes that are beautiful, functional, and uniquely their own, while making the design process feel far less overwhelming than they ever imagined.
While I haven’t managed to leave the spreadsheets completely behind, my days are now spent doing what I truly love: designing beautiful spaces for wonderful people.
And yes, my parents still enjoy the occasional "we told you so."
